 BRAZILIAN BOSSA NOVA MUSIC

BOSSA NOVA GENESIS

Bossa Nova, with its soft, elaborate and intimate rhythm, was born in Rio de Janeiro, in the late 1950s… As music, Bossa Nova mixes the Brazilian samba beat with North-american jazz and classic music… In the Bossa Nova themes, lyrics – often sung off-key – have a role as important as the music, itself. The poet, or lyricist-poet, is as important as the composer.

TOM JOBIM AND VINICIUS DE MORAES

Most of Bossa Nova themes have a duo of creators: the poet, and the composer. Tom Jobim (a composer) and Vinicius de Moraes (a poet) are a legendaru example of that association (Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes The Girl From Ipanema was the first big international hit of Bossa Nova and Brazilian popular music).
