IGUASSU WATER FALLS BRAZIL TOURS & TRIPS

Visiting the Brazilian side of the Falls

Iguassu Falls - Brazilian side imageIguassu Falls, Embratur

Take a taxi or a bus to the Iguassu Park. In the Park, near the final bus stop, there is a stairway that leads down to a trail and then to a catwalk. Take it. Along the path there are some magnificent spots to observe the Falls. You can take an elevator too return to the top, and to have other views of the scenery.

The views are magnificent, but the viewing area is rather limited. So, one morning is more than enough for the viewings and photos (choose the morning for the visit, to get a better light for photography). But you have much more to visit, connected to the park, the river and the Falls, if you wish. There are several related and paid optional trips. We list most of them below.

The Bird ParK - Iguassu falls Brazil

The Bird Park is located at the entrance of the Brazilian Iguassu National Park and includes twelve acres of forest. The birds are kept loose in 8-meter high forest aviaries in conditions as similar as possible to their own habitat. For those who love photography and bird watching, the Bird Park is an obligatory spot. There are over 160 species of birds, mostly Brazilian and American. There are also exhibits of reptiles and butterflies, and facilities such as snacks and souvenir shops.
Time of the visit: 1 to 2 hours.

Tours in the jungle and on the river

The organized tours we list below are largely alternative. The last two are more complete and longer.

The Macuco Safari Tour - Brazil side

The Macuco Safari is a guided tour, in the Brazilian Iguassu National Park. It involves bilingual guides, and a trip of 2 miles/3 Kms along the forest, in open wagons. It includes also an optional 500 meter walking trail leading to Salto do Macuco waterfall and to the banks of the Iguassu River, where you can experience an upstream rafting expedition till the Devil’s Throat, in inflatable boats. This trip in the river allows magnificent perspectives of the Falls, and the possibility of being at their bottom or even below them.
Tour duration: 2 hours.

The Banana Trill Trip - Brazil side

The Banana Trill Trip (Trilha das Bananeiras) is a four-mile roundtrip hike on the banks of the Iguassu River, through the subtropical forest, in the Iguassu National Park (Brazil). If you like to walk and if you are a nature lover, this is an interesting tour. You probably won’t encounter any furtive and rare animal, but the flora, the butterflies, the toucans and other birds, deserve your visit.
Tour duration: 1 to 2 hours.

Black Well Trail (Trilha do Poço Preto) - Iguassu Falls Brazil

This tour is composed by a visit to the Iguassu National Park, Brazil, and by a boat ride on the upper Iguassu river. On the first part of the tour (9 Kms) you can chose the bike or to hike through selected treks of the jungle, and appreciate the flora and fauna of the area. In the river part of the tour, you can choose the boat or the kayak to descend the river as the first explorers did.
Tour duration: about 5 hours

The Martin Line Jungle Tour - Iguassu Brazil-

The Martin Line Jungle Tour is a paid and very complete tour. It involves the exploration of 11 miles/16 Kms of treks of the forest by jeep. And also a guided hike of 4 Kms, through the jungle of the Iguassu National Park, an optional rubber raft tour, and a cruise in the Iguassu river. During the Tour, you can observe local animals, its tracks, birds, butterflies, you can swim… etc.
Tour duration: about 5 hours.

Other activities in the Brazilian side

Golf, fishing tours, flights over the Falls, the Itaipu Damp… There are several other trips and options, besides the ones listed above.

The Itaipu Damp: Iguassu Brazil
The Itaipu hydroelectric plant is one of the three biggest damps in the world, and has become a tourist attraction in itself.

The Landmark of the Three Countries: Iguassu Waterfalls
The landmark is just 4 miles/6 Kms from the center of the city of the Foz do Iguaçu, and it’s the place where the waters of the Iguassu and the Parani rivers meet, and also the point where Brazil, Argentine and Paraguay have a common boarder (signalized by the coloured obelisks that the three countries had constructed). There, you can have a panoramic view of the three countries.

Golf
If you like golf, you have the possibility of practising it on the greens of the Bourbon Iguassu Golf Club Resort, a luxury hotel in Iguassu.

Fishing tours on the Parana river
There are organized fishing tours, including the use of the equipment, meals and fishing expertise. Just look for information in your hotel, or at any Tourist Center.

Flights over the Falls, and over the region by helicopter
There is, at Iguassu Falls, a polemic about the helicopter use, and its noise and impact in animal life, but the offer persists. If you like and wish, you can fly over the Falls, and appreciate them from the sky, or opt for a larger aerial view of the region.

Walks and shopping
For the more contemplative or less pressed by the time, there is also the possibility of a romantic walk near the Falls to see the sunset, or the possibility of a shopping tour in Foz do Iguaçu city. This city has grown steadily in the last years, and offers some good local shopping opportunities.
